Buying guide: Food & Beverage from China

Register as the FSVP importer and verify the foreign supplier (FSMA). The Chinese facility must have a current FDA food facility registration and a US agent; each shipment needs FDA prior notice. Low-acid canned foods require FCE/SID filings.

Request a certificate of analysis per lot (pesticide residues, heavy metals, microbiology), HACCP/ISO 22000 or BRC certificates, and for organic claims a USDA NOP certificate. Third-party lab testing on arrival is good practice for the first shipments.

Most dried and canned goods ship ambient by sea (shelf life 12–24 months); frozen seafood needs reefer containers at −18 °C. Specify packaging, labelling language and lot coding on the PO.
