Buying guide: Metals & Minerals from China
Section 232 adds 25% (steel) / 10–25% (aluminium) on top of normal duties, and many specific products (rebar, wire rod, pipe, extrusions) carry AD/CVD. Get an HTS ruling and landed-cost estimate before committing. Many buyers source finished parts instead of raw metal for this reason.
Require mill test certificates (MTC/EN 10204 3.1) with each heat number, and spot-check with third-party chemical analysis and tensile tests. Specify standard and grade precisely (ASTM A36, 6063-T5, C11000).
Coils: usually 25 t per size. Extrusions: 500–1,000 kg per profile; custom dies cost US$300–1,500. Castings: by part, often 500–1,000 pcs with pattern/tooling charges.
