Buying guide: Furniture from China

Flat-pack (KD) cuts freight dramatically — a 40’HQ holds 3–4× more KD casegoods than assembled. Upholstery ships assembled or semi-KD. Ask the factory for a cube-per-unit figure and loading plan before quoting landed cost.

TSCA Title VI / CARB Phase 2 for composite wood (with labelled compliance), 16 CFR 1633 for mattresses, California TB 117-2013 for upholstery flammability, ASTM F2057 for clothing storage units (tip-over, mandatory via STURDY Act), and BIFMA for office seating.

Upholstery: 20–50 pcs per model or one 40’ container mixed; casegoods: 50–100 pcs per item; office chairs: 100–300 pcs. Production 35–60 days.
